Latex caps support the title as the original swim cap. Some pros about latex caps are, they're great for racing because they're light-weight. They have a low drag and have a fantastic stretch. A fortunate note about latex is, they are the most inexpensive of swim caps. The main one con about latex caps are that they will pull hair. Latex would not be your best option to get to get a yound child. Kids dislike their head of hair pulled which means this might not be the ideal solution. On the other hand lycra will be a sensible choice for children.
Second we'll touch upon Lycra Swim Caps:
Lycra doesn't fit too tight and is removed relatively easy, and this would have been a perfect cap for the kids. An expert for lycra is it won't tear quickly. Another plus for lycra is, it's great for very long hair. You can remove so there's less pulling of the hair compared to other two kinds of swim caps. Becasue it is a porus material water will seep in your cap.
Lastly, we come upon the silicone cap:
A great thing about silicone caps are, they are latex free, making this your best option for swimmers allergic to latex. Silicone doesn't pull hair just as easily as latex does. The down-side of silicone is it will tear easily or even looked after properly. Swimmers with longer nails should use extreme caution when putting on a silicone cap.
